AN AWARD-winning Weymouth fish and chip shop has won a further two awards to add to the collection.
Fish ‘n’ Fritz in Market Street has been named one of the UK’s 10 Best Fish & Chip Restaurants and was also announced as one of the UK’s 50 Best Fish & Chip Takeaways 2021/2022 at the same time.
The awards were given by trade publication Fry Magazine after ‘mystery diners’ visited the chippy multiple times.
An anonymous judge sampled the food and assessed key aspects of the business, from the cleanliness of the premises to staff knowledge and professionalism to social media presence.
Paul Hay, who opened Fish ‘n’ Fritz in 1997, said: “We must once again thank Fry Magazine for the opportunity to allow Fish ‘n’ Fritz and many, many other fish and chip shops around the country to take part in such a prestigious annual award such as this.
“After being mystery shopped twice earlier this year, we now find ourselves within the 10 best restaurants and 50 best takeaways in the UK.
“Over 40 aspects of our business were marked, from the quality of the food, customer service to our social media presence and, more importantly, our Covid safe practices.
“I am immensely proud of my staff for all their hard work and our customers for their continued support over these last 12 months.”

The accolades come after an extensive search by leading trade publication Fry Magazine to find the chippies serving up the finest fish and chips in the UK.
The mystery diners for both awards scored Fish ‘n’ Fritz ‘impressively’ and in particular praised their chips and the size of their fish.
They are now the only fish and chip shop in Weymouth to make the prestigious list for takeaways and the only restaurant to make the 10 best list in Dorset.
Last year the chippy was named, again by Fry Magazine, in the UK’s 50 Best Fish & Chip Takeaways. They have also won gold in the Dorset Tourism Awards and reached the finals of the south west Tourism Awards.
