WEYMOUTH 3

LONDON ACES 0

WEYMOUTH Beach Volleyball Club extended their unbeaten run to five matches when they defeated London Aces 3-0 in their National League Division One tussle at Redlands.

Victory takes the club to sixth place in the division and guarantees their place at this level for next season.

This was another dominant performance by Weymouth with the side only forfeiting the lead for a few points in the second set.

Although London Aces had some powerful attackers and servers of their own they were no match for Weymouth’s power and consistency across the whole squad.

Weymouth did struggle to get into their rhythm right at the beginning of the match particularly with a number of serving errors but once they had overcome this they were able to pull away from Aces.

This was achieved particularly with the power hitting of man-of-the-match Matt Hunter and Valdis Baranovs and they were able to take the key points to win 25-21.

Weymouth continued their dominance in the second set with strong middle blocking from Darren Harding and Sam Groom managing to stop the Aces’ middle attack.

However, a few unforced errors allowed London to lead 18-17.

At this point coach Simon Golding called a time-out and Weymouth came back from this reinvigorated and completely dominated the last few points, particularly with powerful serving from Ryan Stout, to run away to a 25-20 win.

The third set saw Weymouth bring on 18-year-old Archie Golding and his attacking power added even more to Weymouth’s attack.

Although they did not have a large lead they were ahead throughout the set and ran out 25-17 victors, taking the match 3-0 with it.

Next up for Weymouth is a tricky double-header weekend away to Stockport and Manchester on on Saturday, March 26 and Sunday, March 27 before returning home on Saturday, April 2 to play Nottingham.
