SHERBORNE TOWN RES 1

BALTI SPORTS 4

BALTI Sports completed a hat-trick of Jewson Dorset Premier League wins with a 4-1 success over Sherborne Town Reserves at Raleigh Grove.

Balti were trailing 4-0 at half-time of the original fixture before a medical emergency in the crowd forced its abandonment with the Weymouth side 4-2 behind.

There was no repeat this time as Balti made the sort of quick start that has now hallmarked their run of three victories.

The visitors took the lead through Ryan Dovell, the experienced midfielder volleying home from a good run and cross from Jack Drummond 10 minutes in.

Matt Chambers fired wide and Rory Zima cut inside only to blast off target as Balti wasted chances for a second.

Instead, it was the Zebras who equalised when Tom Beeson beat centre-halves Phil Anderson and Matt Brisco to a long ball before slotting past away goalkeeper Andy Nott.

In the second half, Balti ran the Sherborne defence into the ground with constant runs in behind and it paid off as Drummond netted a hat-trick.

His first strike was a solid one-on-one finish from Dovell’s accurate pass.

Dovell provided the assist again with a flick-on for Drummond, who lobbed the Zebras’ keeper from 20 yards for 3-1.

And Drummond sealed a stunning day’s work with his treble, rifling home the rebound on the half-volley after Chambers had crunched a shot against the bar.

Speaking to Echosport, Balti boss Marco Nott said: “Confidence is sky-high. You can even see it in the warm-up. We’ve got the good vibes back.

“It rubs on to the pitch. Our new approach to games is working because we’re certainly starting well and getting ahead, whereas before we’re conceding stupid goals, going behind and not managing to claw it back.

“We’ve scored 17 in three games and we’re not really conceding at the other end. We’ve stumbled on something, it’s really pleasing to see.

“The lads deserve it. They’ve had a dark season and the lads that are loyal, it’s nice to see them get a few positive results and they can enjoy it a bit more because it’s been a tough season.”

On Drummond, Nott added: “He’s been superb for us. He’s got all the attributes to be a proper striker.

“He’s a young lad but he’s got the ability to score a lot of goals. His finishing’s improved drastically.

“We tend to play him on the left wing a lot but through the middle he’s causing more threat, so it’s good to see.”
