A 62-CENTIMETRE high statue has sold for more than double its estimated price after going under the hammer at auction in Dorchester.
A monumental 'Rosso Antico' marble torso of a Roman emperor sold at Duke's for £22,000 as part of the Fine Art auction on February 24.
The statue is wearing a scalloped tunic and shoulder straps with a lion's mask terminals, and is perched on a rectangular white marble plinth. It is 62cm high and 42cm wide - 76cm high overall with the plinth.
The statue had a starting bid of £6,000 with an estimated sale price of between £10,000 to £15,000, but sold for £22,000.
