CORFE CASTLE 3

BALTI SPORTS 6

BALTI Sports recorded back-to-back Jewson Dorset Premier League wins for the first time this season with a 6-3 victory over Corfe Castle at the Fortress.

Looking to follow-up the 7-0 thrashing of Poole Borough last time out, Balti got off to a dream start when veteran striker Ricky Lane scored with just 28 seconds gone.

Balti netted an outrageous 20-yard bicycle kick courtesy of Danny Andrews to go 2-0 up before Rory Zima’s cross-shot flew into the top corner for his first goal of the season.

And the Weymouth side bagged a fourth before the break when Andrews converted a penalty after Zima was tripped in the box.

Faced with a large deficit at half-time for the second week running, Castle got themselves back into the game with another rapid start to the second half.

Corfe had trailed Blandford 3-0 at the interval last time out before scoring three times in five minutes, and they added another two in quick succession against Balti.

First, Finn Lowe beat keeper Andy Nott to make it 4-1 and then Jack Craig notched a second.

Balti soon nipped hopes of a comeback in the bud when Andrews claimed his hat-trick, Zima again turning provider.

Corfe again reduced their arrears as James Stocker scored a penalty but the impressive Zima had the final say when he finished off a one-two with Lane by rounding the home keeper to score.

Speaking to Echosport, Nott highlighted the performance of a resurgent Zima, who had a hand in four of Balti’s six goals.

He said: “Rory was superb, he’s woken up again and we need a player like him in the team.

“He’s very good at unlocking passes and when he’s on it he’s a real handful and gives us something we haven’t got in our squad.

“He was on the left-hand side and cutting their defence in half with some of his play, it was really pleasing to see him in good form.”

Nott also mentioned Scott Walker, who was stationed in central midfield.

“He was outstanding,” Nott said. “It was a good game from him. The amount of play he broke up and headers he won, he started so many of our attacks by being a pain in the bum.

“A really good, solid performance from the captain.”

Reflecting on the display overall, Nott added: “We’re back to how we should play, really.

“We’re back scoring goals and it was good to see. You can see the confidence flowing through the team with the way we’re playing. I was delighted.”
