WEYMOUTH Beach Volleyball Club extended their unbeaten run in National League Division One to four matches with a convincing 3-0 win over Manchester Marvels at Redlands.

Weymouth got off to a flying start and never really looked back.

The Seasiders' attack, coordinated by the excellent setting of captain Ryan Stout was simply too strong for the Manchester defence and Weymouth raced to an 8-3 lead.

From this point it never really looked like Marvels would get back into the set being unable to score points on their service due to a combination of consistent service receive and powerful hitting from Weymouth and they were able to maintain their lead and run out 25-15 winners.

The second set followed a very similar pattern with Weymouth taking control including strong attacks breaking the Manchester defence particularly from Valdis Baranovs and Matt Hunter.

Weymouth again opened an early lead and took the set 25-16.

Weymouth coach Simon Golding took advantage of the team’s dominance to bring on youngsters Ollie Smith and Archie Golding in the third set and they both showed why they are both such exciting prospects for the future continuing the dominance of the Weymouth attack.

Once again, Weymouth led up to 13-9 but at this point Manchester’s defence rallied and they had a run of points which gave them the lead for the first time in the match as they went 17-15 ahead.

At this point, Weymouth showed the experience they have gained in England's second tier this year and upped their game to wrestle back control and run away 25-18 victors, securing the match 3-0 in sets.

Weymouth’s outside hitter Hunter was named man of the match but it really could have been any of the Weymouth squad playing in this dominant way.

This win takes Weymouth Beach into sixth place in the 10-team division and with six matches to play gives them a real chance of finishing in the top half of the table.

One of those matches will be a trip to Manchester in March for the return fixture where they may well find a stronger team waiting for them.

Weymouth’s next match is against seventh-placed London Aces at Redlands on Saturday, March 5 (1.15pm).
