A KIND-HEARTED young boy will be bouncing into West Bay this weekend to raise money for his school.

Four-year-old Arthur Greenshields will bounce on his space hopper from Bridport to West Bay after overhearing conversations between his parents about charity and being inspired by Olympian Tom Daley – who passed through town last week for his Comic Relief fundraiser.

Arthur decided he wanted to do his own fundraiser in aid of his pre-school - St Catherine’s.

Arthur, who recently moved with his family from North Allington to Hawkchurch in Devon, has made his parents very proud after coming up with the idea all by himself and is already smashing his donation target.

Mum Emma, said: “I am so proud of him, he is very kind-hearted and I am so happy he came up with this by himself - he is very active and this is the perfect way to use his energy.

“Arthur’s dad and I had been talking about charities struggling because of the pandemic and then Arthur wanted to know about charities so we explained to him about them and things people do for them.

“Then when we saw Tom Daley cycling through the town we explained that he was doing it for charity and that inspired Arthur.

“We spoke about fun runs and he said he wanted to do one on a space hopper which we joked about at first and then we thought we could actually give it go.”

Arthur will be bouncing to West Bay this Saturday (February 26).

Mrs Greenshields said: “We will be parking near the football ground and then hopping across the field there.

"We may even treat him to an ice cream, or hot chocolate if it is cold, afterwards.

“He has done some practice for it and hopefully it goes well.”

Arthur aims to raise as much money as possible for St Catherine’s Pre-School, which he still attends despite moving. He's already smashed his £400 target, with £565 plus gift aid currently raised at the time of writing.

“Arthur is pleased to see how much he has raised already, the money will go to helping with the running costs because the pre-school is a charity," added Mrs Greenshields.

“I just want to add my thanks to everyone that has donated, anything does help.”
