A WEYMOUTH teenager who had her hair cut off is donating the locks to a charity to help children.

It was towards the end of 2021 when 14-year-old Lilly-May Phillips told her mum Lisa that she wanted to cut her hair off.

Having always had long hair the teenager’s mum was not too impressed by the proposal but soon warmed when she found out she wanted to donate it to charity.

Lilly-May plans to donate her locks to the Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides wigs to children and young people who have lost their hair as a result of cancer treatment or other illnesses.

Mrs Phillips said: "Lilly-May has wanted to cut her hair for a while and rather than waste the hair she wanted to contact the Little Princess Trust to use it and help children who need it.

“Her hair is gone now and she loves it.

“It was just before Christmas when she decided about cutting it and donating it to charity which was a big step as she had always had it long.

“I did not want her to cut her hair originally but it does look good and it’s helping a good cause.”

Having had her hair cut off at Elegance Hair & Beauty in Littlemoor the pair are now collecting donations before they send off the locks alongside the money.

Mrs Phillips continued: “Now we are just collecting sponsor money before we send that off with the hair, so far we have raised £200 which is great.

“We did hope to get £550 which would pay for a child’s wig but so far we have not got there, although we have beaten the £150 mark which could pay for a child to have a professional fitting.

“I just want to say a big thank you to anyone who has supported her so far.”

Having cut her hair off once Lilly-May now has plans to give it a go again in the future.

Her mum added: “She is now saying she wants to grow it again and do it again, she’s even inspired her little sister Mia to do the same when she is older.”

The family request any donations are made directly to the Little Princess Trust, which can be done via their website.
