STORM Eunice has caused “extensive damage” to Portland United’s Camp & Satherley Stadium, chairman Matt Lucas has admitted.
Gusts of up to 91mph were measured on Portland as Eunice ripped through much of the south of England at the weekend.
The Blues have shared pictures of a snapped floodlight, mangled goals, bent and missing fences plus roof damage to a dugout.
Costs for repairs are likely to be expensive but the Blues are confident they can be made before the visit of Bashley in Wessex League action on Saturday.
Speaking to Echosport, Lucas said: “It’s obviously a great shame.

“There is some extensive damage at the ground. We’re very fortunate to have such a loyal base of volunteers and supporters at the club that do such a lot.
“Hopefully their work and presence will be useful to us. Obviously, it’s a blow but I’m sure there are other places that have experienced damage to their homes, businesses and football clubs alike.
“We’ve got to work hard, look at what needs to be done and get on with it.
“It’s probably a little too early to say with regards to cost. We’re triaging what needs to be done and then a list will be done in a uniformed way.
“We’re making sure we do the stuff that really needs to be done to enable the game to be played.
“We’re fortunate enough to have people connected to the club who have an expertise in various jobs and I’m sure that will come in handy.
“We’ve been kindly notified of some assistance that could come through the Football Foundation (Emergency Football Relief Fund) which we’re certainly looking into.
“We’re well-run on a financial basis but we need to seek whatever assistance there is out there to enable us to get the ground back up to its normal ship-shape condition.”
Asked whether the Bashley game is in jeopardy, Lucas said: “I would like to think we will be in a position where we will have no problem in the game being played.
“That’s what we’re aiming for. If circumstances change, we’ll be on top of that. We’ll all work together and do our best in making sure the ground is back to its normal state before very long.”
