A TOTAL of £15,000 is to be spent renovating railings on Weymouth seafront.
The money will come from a £80,000 pot of reserve funding which was previously earmarked by Weymouth Town Council to be used where necessary along the seafront.
The decision was made at the Full Council Advisory meeting following a unanimous vote after the recommendation was put forward by council officer Tony Hurley.
He said: “In June 2021 the full council announced an earmarked reserve of £80,000 for improvements to the promenade and beach, in particular for the replacement of railings that run along the eastern edge of the promenade.
“It is now proposed to undertake the replacement of some of the railings in the southern section of the promenade."
Mr Hurley added that ‘any unspent funds will be retained for further works in the autumn’.
The recommendation was proposed by Councillor Howard Legg and seconded by Councillor Gil Taylor.
Councillor David Northam queried if the replacement of the railings would clash with sea defence works currently being undertaken but Mr Hurley confirmed it would not.
Melcombe Regis councillor Ken Whatley added: “I totally agree with it, let’s get going with it so that we can test it throughout the summer.”
