WEYMOUTH & District Table Tennis League action has been of immense quality in the new year.
Budmouth B's youngsters played exceptionally well to take 14 legs off an experienced Preston B team with Oliver Cobban taking a very impressive eight points.
Ethan Bilsland just missed out 13-11 in the decider to Paul Bohknect in the game of the night and Oliver Storey just beat the same opponent 11-9 in the fifth but lostt to Eddie Chapman in the fifth – the latter unbeaten on the night as his team wrapped up a 25-14 victory.
Elsewhere in the top flight, YMCA just missed out against Springfield C in a very competitive match with Tom Scott and Robin Prince staring for the visitors pulling them in front with nine points apiece. Ken Brake, Brian Hansford and Andy Webb all chipped in to make this a very competitive match in a friendly atmosphere.
Colliton X's Tony Loveridge proved that age is just a number by picking up a fine six points in the county town team's 23-15 win against Portland Red Triangle.
Along with the inspirational 84-year-old picking up a six-point haul, Simon Joslin kept his 100 per cent record but was pushed close by Mike Spracklen who was the lead scorer for Triangle with six legs.
Preston E had Roy Sharp, Sue Moloney and Richard Lownsbrough playing Preston C's Mal Smith, Roger Winstanley and Steve Rockett,
The match began with a 3-1 victory for Smith over Sharp with the second game going to 16-14, followed by a 3-2 loss for Winstanley to Lownsbrough. Moloney then beat Smith in the final game.
At the end of the singles the score was 17-17 with just the doubles to go. Moloney and Lownsbrough taking on Smith and Winstanley in a tense battle which boiled down to a one-game shoot-out which Preston C won 11-7 to secure a 20-19 overall win.
