PLAYERS turned out in numbers for the Fun Handicap Tennis Tournament of the year at Dorchester Tennis and Squash Club.

A maximum turnout of 24 players of all abilities participated in this fun event, using a handicap scoring system.

The format for the tournament is doubles and everyone plays three matches with different partners, with the top four players going into the finals. The handicap scoring system led to some long, very competitive matches.

After an enjoyable day, the eventual winners were Mike Williams and Julie Nash who convincingly won the final 6-1 against Sarah Skidmore and Ann Williams.

“We’ve had a great day of fun tennis, and thankfully it stayed dry” said Al Clark, chairman of the DTSC Tennis Committee at the trophy presentation.

“We amended the format of this tournament slightly, to be more Covid-friendly and remain outside for the majority of the time.

"It was a shame we couldn’t hold our normal pot-luck lunch, but we’re just being sensible due to the Omicron variant of Covid-19 and hopefully more social times will be back with us soon.

"It’s great to see so many of you out enjoying your tennis at the start of another year.”
