TENANTS at a chalet overlooking Weymouth Beach have been left ‘heartbroken’ after finding out they will not be offered the chance to extend their agreement - with no explanation given as to why.
The Winslow and Higgins family have been renting one of the lots at Greenhill for generations and now they have been told to leave in March with no reason as to why, how the decision was made or by who, leaving them feeling like they have been ‘personally attacked’.
Chalets in the gardens on that stretch of the seafront are operated by the Greenhill Community Trust, a tenant of Weymouth Town Council, and decided that the family can no longer rent the chalet despite 'always paying rent'.
Vicky Winslow said: “I feel like it is a personnel decision and we have been victimised.
“I have been involved with the chalets in Weymouth all my life and while personally I have not had one for many years my uncle did and my mum is always down there and has been since we were little children.
“We have looked after it, decorated it inside, and just spent so much time there in general - we even hold a party once a year.
“Yet now we have been told to clear out by the end of March with no reason at all. It is devastating, I have not seen my mum this upset in years.”
The family says they received a letter in December from the Greenhill Community Trust ordering them to leave without offering any reason as to why and that the decision was ‘non-negotiable’.
Mrs Winslow continued: “We have had so much joy there and the thought of my children not enjoying it too, like I have, breaks my heart.

“To have no consultation or engagement totally makes it feel like a personal attack - they won’t even talk to us on the phone.”
Mrs Winslow now lives in Guildford, but says her family comes from all around the area to meet at the chalet and she feels not coming from Weymouth is not the reason why they have been told to move on with ‘other people from further afield being offered new leases’.
She added: “My mum, who loves chalets and collects postcards with them on, is often chatting with locals having cups of tea, we have integrated ourselves into the community there.”
