BRIDPORT have whittled their list of potential new managers down to six, chairman Adrian Scadding has revealed.

The Bees have been without a permanent boss since Rob Marquis stepped down by mutual consent just before Christmas, having lost 24 of 25 league games.

Since then, reserve-team boss Chris Herbst took charge of the 4-0 defeat at Exmouth and caretaker manager Shaun Annetts oversaw the 5-0 loss at Bridgwater United in early January.

Bridport will have had a 20-day gap before their next game on Saturday at home to Shepton Mallet (3pm).

But the Bees appear in no rush to name a new boss, with Scadding admitting Bridport are keen to make an astute appointment.

He told the Bridport News: “At the moment we’ve got six people interested in the job and I’m starting interviewing this week.”

Asked what calibre of candidates had applied, Scadding said: “Good – I can’t say anything because they’re all at other clubs.

“Obviously, I’d like someone to take it on so they can see what we’ve got and what they’ve got to bring in.

“They’ve got a bit of time to adjust, then. If you leave it until the end of the season and start a new season, you haven’t really looked at it and you just bring people in.

“It would be just starting from scratch again. I’d rather them see what we’ve got, see what they can add and then August we’ll be ready to go.

“We’re taking our time, interviewing all the applicants and we’ll pick the right one.”
