It was just a couple of days ago we were battening down the hatches for Storm Barra, with strong winds hitting the coast and flood alerts issued for Dorset.
This photo from the 1980s shows Preston Beach Road in Weymouth after a vicious storm threw water and shingle over the old wall, embedding cars and a bus as it did so.
Here, you can see a wrecked car in the aftermath of the storm. Apparently the Bowleaze Pleasure Dome transport bus was trapped there for weeks after the weather event.
Luckily, the new wall has so far meant this is now a thing of the past.
Reader Jo Kempster tells us: "The new wall was built by my lovely step-dad Sidney Samways who’s sadly no longer here! But his wall is!"
Brian Ellis said: "A great partnership working with a number of authorities brought the new wall about. Local government and Environment Agency at its best."
Alison Small remembers: "When the sea was over it meant no school for us. I'd watch out my bedroom window to see the waves and shingle coming over."
