A LAPDANCING club in Weymouth is seeking permission to continue providing night-time adult entertainment in the town.
Wiggle club, based at 33 New Street in the town centre, has been closed for much of the pandemic - but owners have sent a clear signal that they intend to keep the business going, as an application has been submitted to the council for a renewal of their Sexual Entertainment Venue Licence.
According to the Licensing team at Dorset Council there have been no complaints or problems relating to the club in the last year - although officers noted that the venue opened after lockdown in August 2021.
A sexual entertainment licence allows premises to host a range of activities, including lap dancing, pole dancing and strip shows. The licence covers any activity that involves live performances or live displays of nudity, or live performances that are intended to simulate sexual activity.

Wiggle's website states that the club 'strongly encourages having a topless dance at the price of £10 or a fully nude for £20.' It also states that gentlemen must be seated before a dance can be undertaken, and that whilst dances are taking place there must be no kind of physical contact.
Wiggle took over its Weymouth town centre premises in 2019. Before that the venue was Goldfingers and Peekaboo, both also gentleman's clubs. It is part of a chain, with a larger venue in Bournemouth, as well as in Portsmouth and Southampton.
The decision regarding the licence renewal will be debated by Weymouth Town Council's Planning and Licensing Committee on December 9, when members will consider whether they have any objection or comment to make.
The final decision rests with Dorset Council, however.
