A recently opened restaurant on Weymouth harbourside has netted a prestigious accolade.
Just five months after opening, seafood restaurant Catch at the Old Fish Market has been added to the Michelin Guide for 'commitment to sustainable gastronomy'.
Catch, on Custom House Quay, prides itself on offering 'an authentic sea-to-plate dining experience' serving fish and shellfish with local provenance landed just a few feet from the restaurant kitchen.
The Michelin Guide, which lists select restaurants of distinction on its website, praises Catch's 'lovely' building and 'memorable dishes'.
The Weymouth restaurant's entry in the guide says: "When a seafood restaurant is on a quay, you can be sure the fish is going to be fresh. This lovely Portland stone, Grade II-listed fish market dates from 1855 – and walking past the array of ethically-caught seafood will get you in the mood. The kitchen works with calm efficiency to create memorable dishes."
The restaurant, which opened in June, has chef Mike Naidoo at the helm. It's based at the old fish market above fishmonger Weyfish. The building was painstakingly restored by local craftspeople. The restaurant offers views over the harbour and airy light flooding in through a clerestory roof.
Mike formerly cooked with Jason Atherton at Pollen Street Social in London and moved to Dorset to take on his first head chef role with his partner Tija Klincov, who is Catch's pastry chef.
Menus at Catch change regularly to reflect what the boats bring in and among Mike's dishes you can find: scallop ceviche, lobster thermidor croquettes, roast brill, roast salsify and Exmoor caviar, skate wing, pork belly, seaweed and sage, sea bass with fennel, almonds and crab potatoes.
Dorset vineyards feature heavily on the wine list - local wines available include Langham Wine Estate, Furleigh Estate and Bride Valley Vineyard.
