A ROAD has been closed off to drivers due to a large sinkhole.
Dorset Police have closed North End both ways this morning following reports of a large sinkhole opening up in Motcombe near Shaftesbury.
Traffic is said to be coping well.
A spokesman for North Dorset Police said: "Bit of a hole has opened up, North End, Motcombe. Road is closed and local authority are aware.
"Thanks to the members of public who very kindly called."
A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "We were called at 9.08am on Tuesday 30 November 2021 to reports of a large hole in the road at North End, Motcombe.
"The matter has been reported to the local authority and they have attended.
"Road closed both ends."
A spokesman for Dorset Council said: "Our highway engineers are assessing the damage and looking at the drainage in the area so that they can design an appropriate repair.
"Unfortunately, the road will need to remain closed due to the nature and location of the damage."
