A ROUTE through rural Dorset will close in both directions due to roadworks - with an 18.2-mile diversion in place

An unnamed road in Buckland Newton from outside Knapps Hill will be shut between 9.30am and 3pm on Friday, December 3.

The 650-metre stretch of road must close in order to safely allow Openreach crews to carry out works in the area.

A public notice from Dorset Council reads: “This Notice will provide Openreach with safe access to undertake pole testing."

The road, which serves as the main route through Buckland Newton, will have a 18.2-mile diversion route in place. The diversion will see motorists travel through the Blackmore Vale area and onto roads such as Revels Hill, A352 and B3143.

Alternatively, there are a number of shorter but unofficial routes that drivers can take to avoid the road closure. These are not suitable for HGVs and should be avoided if using larger machinery.
