A WOMAN was brought to safety off the roof of a Weymouth building last night (Tuesday, November 16).

Police, fire and ambulance services were called to Commercial Road near the town centre after concerns were raised for the welfare of a woman on the roof of a building at 4.59pm.

Commercial Road was closed in both directions between Lower St Alban Street and Westham Road while bus services were unable to stop in the area.

The woman was safely taken away from the building at around 7.20pm and the road reopened soon after.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "Dorset Police received a report at 4.59pm on Tuesday, November 16 raising concern for the welfare of a woman in Weymouth.

"It was subsequently reported that the woman was on the roof of a building in Commercial Road.

"Officers have attended, along with the fire service.

"Road closures were put in place as the emergency services respond to the incident and efforts were made to engage with the woman and take her to safety."

He later added: "The woman was taken to safety at around 7.20pm and the road has now reopened."
