A STUNNING display of around 1,000 hand-crafted poppies have been installed to cascade down from a church roof.
The poppies were hung up on Wednesday from the roof of St Mary’s Church in Puddletown in time for yesterday’s commemoration of Armistice Day, which marked the end of the First World War, and ahead of Remembrance Sunday, when the country will honour those who fought and lost their lives for our freedom.
Spokeswoman for the project, Emma Hughes, said: “The amazing people of Puddletown and their family and friends - some as far away as Australia - have been busy knitting and crocheting poppies over the past six weeks. We have fixed them to netting and hoisted up the church tower in time for Remembrance Day and to commemorate the centenary of the Royal British Legion.”
The poppies will be on display until Sunday, November 28.
