A DOG was rescued by firefighters as the owner was rushed to hospital after suffering smoke inhalation during a blaze in a town centre building.
Both crews from Swanage Fire Station were called around 9pm last night (November 4) to a fire at a home in High Street.
On arrival, fire crews saved the woman in her 70s and her beloved Sam the dog from the building before giving oxygen to both.
A spokeswoman from Dorset & Wiltshire Fire Rescue Service (DWFRS) said: "We received a call yesterday with reports of a property fire at an address in High Street, Swanage.
"Both pumps attended a fire in a building in the town centre of High Street at 8.57pm.
"On arrival, crews found a small fire within the kitchen of the property which was occupied by one woman, who was in her 70s, and a dog.
"The woman suffered smoke inhalation and was given oxygen by crews before being taken to hospital by ambulance.
"Her pet dog was also given oxygen using the Smokey Paws kit.
"We wish the lady and Sam the pet dog a speedy recovery."
The stop came at 9.57pm.
