FUNDRAISING for motorcycling star Brad Jones has ended as the Dorset star continues his recovery from serious injury.

Jones, 23, punctured both lungs, broke his pelvis and numerous ribs after crashing at Brands Hatch in the seventh British Superbikes race of the season in July.

However, his most serious ailment was a bleed on the brain – rehabilitation from which appears to be the biggest obstacle in his recovery.

And Jones’ family, based in Stalbridge, has issued an update on both the fundraising that has afforded his private rehabilitation – generating £40,000 – and his current condition.

In a statement on the riders’ Facebook page, they said: “Fourteen weeks since Brad had his accident and what a rollercoaster it has been!

"We feel it’s now time to close the fundraising page down and continue the updates for you all on here.

“Brad is doing amazing, but we have to understand that it’s a long road and not a journey that you can put a finish line to.

"Physically, Brad is well and getting stronger by the day.

"He is determined to get back on his pushbike as soon as he can, but for now he’s doing short sessions on the static bike as part of his physio and loving it.

“In regards to Brad’s head injury, he needs time and support but he’s making very good progress. The brain is a crazy thing, that with time will continue to improve.

“We are very proud of how far Brad has come already but none of his private rehabilitation would have been possible without the love and support from you guys. We as a family and Brad as an individual, will never be able to thank you all enough.

“We have now closed the crowdfunding page down and will be keeping you all updated with the progression of Brad as he moves forward.

“Brad is currently working with various specialists at the Hobbs Rehabilitation Centre, various physios and of course his PT Russ Wells, who are all working closely with one another to make sure Brad is getting the best support he can.

“As a family, we would like to say a massive thank you to each and everyone of you one last time! It’s been a very tough time but you guys got us through. It’s now time to let the specialists do their thing and for Brad to show his true determination on this recovery road.”

Yamaha hotshot Tarran McKenzie was the eventual 2021 British Superbikes champion, beating Tommy Bridewell to the title.
