DORCHESTER Town interim manager Brian Churchill hailed the importance of the Magpies’ 3-2 win over Hartley Wintney.
Churchill and fellow interim manager Craig Robinson chalked up their second win as caretakers following the 3-2 win at Tiverton last week.
Thiago Caze da Silva put Dorchester ahead before Sam Bayston’s double handed the hosts a 3-0 lead.
However, goals for Sam Argent and Josh Webb created tension in the final minutes before the Magpies closed out victory.
The result was the perfect tonic to Saturday’s 5-1 loss at Chesham United.
Speaking to Echosport, Churchill said: “It was really important we bounced back from Saturday’s humiliation.

“What a great response from the boys. Typical Dorchester, they gave me a bit of a nervous last 10 minutes.
“Previous times this season we’ve shipped a goal in the last minute of injury-time but they stood up, defended with their lives and we got the rewards for that.”
Speaking to Dorchester’s media team post-match, Robinson added: “It was a great result. It’s always what you’re judged by.
“To get the three points was a fantastic feeling. To concede two goals after being 3-0 up is the disappointment of the night.
“But the win is the win and the three points will make a big difference.
“There’s a good atmosphere in the dressing room now and we’ve got to build on that, keep that momentum.”
Expanding on the goals, Churchill paid credit to former bosses Robbie Herrera and Kevin Hodges.
“I’ve got to give a bit of credit to Robbie and Kev for the first goal,” he said.
“It was a corner routine they put together and it’s probably the first time we’ve executed it correctly.
“Then Sam’s nipped in and got a poacher’s goal to put us 2-0 up. It was a little unusual, we haven’t been in that position too many times this season.
“It was just concentration second half and seeing the game out. We went 3-0 up and I guess a little complacency sets in and thoughts turn to what’s happened in previous games.
“It was squeaky bum time for the last 10 minutes but we defended well to a man and Alan Walker-Harris was great for us. We saw the game out comfortably in the end.
“It was really important to give the supporters something to cheer about. The players were delighted, so many smiling faces.
“They can play football, it’s just that mentality thing we’ve got to get across the line. That’s a massive three points, we’ve crept up two places.
“Everything’s looking rosy heading into a daunting game on Saturday (against Farnborough).”
Echosport understands Churchill and Robinson will take training this evening, potentially with a view to preparing the team on Saturday.
The Magpies have interviewed their shortlisted candidates and are now set for final talks ahead of an appointment for the vacant manager’s position.
