A NEW Thai takeaway is coming to Weymouth - bringing a jobs boost with it.

Thai Kitchen Delights will be opening its doors in the Park District and will be run by May Donnison, who will cook the food at the new venture in Lennox Street.

The new Thai takeaway, which will serve a selection of traditional dishes to the public, will fill the empty void left by A & I Quality Meats, which closed its doors in early July.

Ms Donnison's partner Peter Bignell said: "It's exciting to start a new venture.

"There's not that many Thai places to eat around the Weymouth area. Thai food is a lot different from other options and we're confident the area will have an appetite for it.

"The space we're moving into has been closed for a while now, so to see an empty void on the high street filled is great. Empty shops make a place look tatty - and I think a new takeaway will encourage people to come to the Park District."

Dorset Echo:

Prior to becoming a butchers, the shop, situated on the corner of Walpole Street and Lennox Street, was a fish and chip shop.

"The shop came available, and I'm confident it will suit becoming a Thai takeaway," said Mr Bignell.

"The space was a former fish and chip shop, which is helpful because we don't need to seek planning permission to cook and serve food on the premises due to its former use."

He added: "It will be a small affair, but we want to concentrate on the delivery side - which we hope will create a couple of delivery jobs.

"We expect to up and running before this side of Christmas."

Melcombe Regis councillor Tia Roos said: "It’s great to have something there and know that the property is being used.

"Empty properties are really sad to see - be that business or residential.

"I expect many people will enjoy the cuisine and it means employment for hopefully people local to the area."

Jon Orrell, who is also a serving councillor for Melcombe Regis, said: "I warmly welcome this new business to the area.

"Thai food is tasty and I look forward to trying some when it opens. I wish them every success."
