This HGV driver kerfuffle and fuel shortage is a pain in the neck; what’s gone wrong?
OK, it looks like things could improve with some emergency visas for European drivers who have unaccountably deserted our shores, but what about the shortages in the hospitality industry, fruit and veg picking and supplies for Christmas?
However, I have an intriguing idea! Why don’t we form some sort of co-operative arrangement with our European neighbours.
We could enable unhindered travel and availability of labour, facilitate free trade, economic opportunities, and cooperation on security, education and a huge range of other mutually beneficial fields! Surely a Win Win for everybody. We could call it the European Co-operative Partnership (or ECP for short).
Frankly, I’m amazed that nobody has thought of this before.
