THE first phase of new homes of a North Dorset development will launch later this month.

Taylor Wimpey's Gillingham Lakes development will officially launch on September 25, introducing a new community of 90 new homes to the town as part of its first phase.

The first phase includes a number of two, three and four-bedroom houses, while the wider development will feature large areas of public open, with a public footpath over the River Lodden providing easy access for residents to St Mary’s primary school.

As part of planning agreements, Taylor Wimpey will make financial contributions to the local area including more than £500,000 to local education and over £175,000 towards equipping local play areas.

In August 2021, Dorset Council approved Taylor Wimpey’s application for a second phase of development of up to 115 homes, east of Lodden Lakes at Gillingham.

The scheme will include 25 per cent affordable housing and see the housebuilder make further financial contributions to the local area.
