'Several calls' to police about dogs left in hot cars in Dorset

The county is experiencing warm weather as the summer comes to a close, with highs of 20 degrees in most areas of Dorset.

Police officers have shared their concerns and revealed the force has received 'several calls' about dogs being left in hot cars in West Dorset.

Officers have warned pet owners to be considerate if leaving their dog in a vehicle on a warm day, noting how 'temperatures in cars will quickly get too hot for dogs to cope'.

Dog owners have been urged to take their dogs with them if they leave the car and ensure they have access to water in case they get thirsty.

A spokesman for Sherborne Police said: "Today police in the west of the county have received several calls to dogs left in hot cars.

"Temperatures in cars will quickly get too hot for dogs to cope. It is not enough to just open the windows a small amount.

"If you are travelling with you dog, please take them with you when you leave the car.

"Please plan your day accordingly to include you dog in your activities and make sure you have water and a bowl available for them to have a drink when needed."
