THREE future tennis stars from Weymouth Tennis Club have taken the next steps in their careers by winning scholarships in the US.
Abbie Tyler, who was educated at Talbot Heath Academy in Bournemouth, has signed for Campbell University in North Carolina. Tyler was also taught by Weymouth's tennis coach Julien Lawes.
Rhys Halcrow, from Portland, has signed with King University in Tennessee.
Halcrow was taught a lot of his tennis in Poole and again by Lawes from an early age. Halcrow has also represented Weymouth in Yeovil and District Summer League matches.
Sophia Hurrion, who hails from Weymouth, is now studying at Marshall University in West Virginia.
Hurrion comes from a family which is very dedicated to the sport and has an elder brother Millen who is currently on a scholarship in the States and has played on the international circuit, finishing runner-up in an ITF tour event in France earlier this month.
Sophia has received a lot of help and development from Lawes and has represented Weymouth Tennis Club in matches against rival clubs over the years.
Pippa Lane, an agent from Stars and Stripes Tennis Recruitment, has helped sign all three students to their respective universities.
