A MOTORCYCLIST was airlifted to hospital following a three-vehicle crash on a Dorset-Devon route.
Emergency services were called to reports of a collision on the A35 in Wilmington, near Honiton, at around 1.15pm on Monday (September 13).
The road, which links Devon with Dorset, was closed shortly after police officers arrived as paramedics attended the scene.
It was initially reported that it was a collision between a motorcycle and lorry, but an updated statement from Devon and Cornwall Police said the crash involved a Honda motorbike, a silver Nissan car and a DAF articulated lorry.
Devon and Cornwall Police say the motorbike rider, a man in his 50s from Hampshire, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted by Devon Air Ambulance to Southampton General Hospital.
A man in his 70s from the Wilmington area and a man in his 30s from the Exeter area were uninjured.
Local officers, as well as officers from the Roads Policing Team, attended and completed an examination of the scene.
The key route saw heavy traffic in the area and in West Dorset as motorists diverted around the road closure. The road was re-opened at around 5.30pm.
An investigation has been launched into the three-vehicle and police officers are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
If you witnessed the incident, have any information or dashcam footage that could help the police with their enquiries, please email 101@dc.police.uk or call 101, quoting log number 450 of Monday, September 13.
