FIREFIGHTERS were called to a blaze on Portland.
A crew from Portland Fire Station was called to reports of a fire at Victoria Square at 7.50pm yesterday.
Upon arrival, they found a member of the public was burning rubbish in a controlled burn.
Crews were not required to extinguish the flames.
A spokesman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: " At 7.50pm we received a call to an unknown fire in Victoria Square, Portland. A crew from Portland attended and found a small fire in the open.
"Someone was burning rubbish. Our crew was not required to take part in and fire fighting action."
"This was a false alarm with good intention."
