FIREFIGHTERS were called to a blaze on Portland.

A crew from Portland Fire Station was called to reports of a fire at Victoria Square at 7.50pm yesterday.

Upon arrival, they found a member of the public was burning rubbish in a controlled burn.

Crews were not required to extinguish the flames.

A spokesman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: " At 7.50pm we received a call to an unknown fire in Victoria Square, Portland. A crew from Portland attended and found a small fire in the open.

"Someone was burning rubbish. Our crew was not required to take part in and fire fighting action."
