DORSET motorcycling ace Brad Jones is fully awake after his serious British Superbike crash.

Jones, 23, highsided at Brands Hatch four weeks ago, his iForce Jones & Lloyd BMW throwing him onto the track and into a barrier at high speed.

The Stalbridge rider suffered serious head, chest and pelvic injuries and was unconscious at the scene.

He was airlifted to King's College Hospital, London, where he needed surgery for a pelvic fracture.

Jones also sustained a bleed on the brain, two punctured lungs and broken ribs.

But the Dorset man is now able to talk with his family after being gradually woken from an induced coma.

"He has now been moved from the critical care unit and is on a ward," British Superbike supremos MotorSport Vision Racing said.

"He is breathing without assistance, awake and can talk to his family visitors. Although he is still confused, this is improving.

"There are ongoing neurological assessments and Brad and his family are waiting for the results of the most recent scans to be able to start planning where he should transfer to  for rehabilitation."

Numerous fundraisers have been set up to help Jones' recovery.

Jones' cousin, Lucy Calvert, has raised almost £40,000 on JustGiving, while World Superbikes star and close friend Scott Redding auctioned off a race-winning helmet.

Other British Superbikes riders have also got involved, with Tommy Bridewell raffling off a pair of leathers.
