I read with sadness that the future of Weymouth Carnival is in doubt following the collapse of the organising committee.
TIMES have been so tough recently and events such as the carnival bring joy to so many people.
Myself and my family have so many fond memories of the carnival from over the years as thousands of people come together to celebrate our wonderful town.
I understand that the committee faced many difficulties due to previous iterations of the carnival being marred with problems, causing a number of organising groups to pull out.
This, on top of the pandemic having a huge impact on fundraising activities, has led to the decision to disband the committee and cancel plans for 2022.
I am grateful for those who gave their time and efforts to revive this event in difficult circumstances. I just hope there is someone else willing to come forward and give it another shot now the world is returning to some sort of normality and there are more opportunities to raise money going forward. It would be such a sad end to a much-loved event for it to go out this way.
