A NEW guided tour reveals the hidden histories behind some of the buildings around Dorchester.
The Hidden Histories of Dorchester guided walking tour and media experience was researched and put together by a group of four final year history students at Bournemouth University.
Working with Dorchester Town Councils’ Heritage Committee, the group researched the history of a number of buildings and their former occupants in the town to produce a self-guided tour in the town.
Cllr Gareth Jones said “ The group worked though the challenging circumstances of lockdown and have produced an excellent and informative walking tour of our town and presented the Council with the complete package ready for us to launch.
"The Council has been delighted to work with the students from Bournemouth University and looks forward to doing so again next year”.
Dr Kate Terkanian, Lecturer in Modern History, at Bournemouth University said: “It has been a pleasure working with Dorchester Town Council on this heritage project. Our BA History students have produced an engaging piece of public history that puts the skills they have learned over the past three years into practice whilst also giving back to the community.”
This is a new tour for Dorchester and it is featured in the Discover Dorchester app and website, as well as being available to download from the GeoTourist app.
