PORTLAND United chairman Matt Lucas hailed the Blues’ centenary celebrations as a “complete success”.
Fans, connections, past and present players and more turned out in force to support the club as it commemorated its 100th birthday.
A whole host of activities, including a charity football match, live music and a bouncy castle, plus much more, was on offer for those who attended.
Lucas told Echosport: “It was an absolutely excellent weekend. The committee worked hard on arranging the day, it was a complete success.
“With the charity stalls, the football with ex-players – it was lovely to see old faces. It’s lovely to see that the club is held in such high regard.
“The kids were well looked after with bouncy castles and there was excellent music throughout the day, plus the food that was available.
“It was just a great celebratory day, it really was.

“A hundred years is something we should celebrate, but we want to make sure there’s a club for the next 100 years as well.”
The day also benefitted Portland United’s chosen charities – Weldmar and the Three Ells Trust, the latter held very close to the club’s heart.
In total, £1,942 was split between the two – a sum that delighted Lucas.
“It was wonderful to make the amount of money that we have for two such deserving charities,” he said.
“The Three Ells Trust is an extremely dear charity for everyone connected to Portland United, so we’re particularly pleased we were able to make that money for those two.”
There was also the small matter of a charity football match, featuring past and present Portland players.
In the end, the blue team managed by vice-chairman and former first-team boss Gary Bailey prevailed 4-1 over their red counterparts.
Lucas said: “The teams were split but they were past and present players.
“It was great to get two teams playing against each other that have represented Portland United over many years.
“They all stayed on for the whole day and evening, it was brilliant. The Blues’ Club was really buzzing in the evening!”
And the day itself was not the end of the celebrations.
“There will be other things coming up throughout the year,” Lucas promised.
“Were hoping to arrange a dinner and there will be other events our commercial team are working on.”
