FIREFIGHTERS were called to a blaze out in the open at dusk.
A crew from Bridport Fire Station was called to a fire in the open on Burton Road, Bridport, at 9.13pm last night.
Upon arrival, crews found that it was a controlled burn and used one hose reel jet to dampen the ground to make sure the fire would not spread any further.
A spokesman for Bridport Fire Station said: "One pump was initially mobilised to a fire in the open along Burton Road. Due to the fire's location, Bridport's 4x4 appliance was then mobilised.
"Upon investigation it was found to be an unattended controlled burn. Crews used one hose reel jet to dampen round the edges to ensure it would not spread.
"We often receive emergency calls from people who can see lots of smoke, and it helps us to know where this could be a controlled burn."
