FIREFIGHTERS at Dorchester Fire Station revealed they were mobilised more than 60 times last month.

During July, crews from Dorchester Fire Station were mobilised more than 60 times to incidents including road traffic collisions, vehicle fires, alarms, false alarms, property fires, chimney fires, animal rescues and agricultural fires.

Crews were also sent to heath fires which have been the subject of a campaign launched by the fire service aimed at reducing the chances of heathland fires following last year's Wareham Forest fire which saw around 220 hectares of forest and heathland destroyed in a blaze believed to have been started by a disposable barbecue.

A spokesman for Dorchester Fire Station said: "The month of July saw crews from Dorchester mobilised over 60 times.

"Whilst we have been out dealing with incidents, our hard working colleagues from fire control have mobilised crews from Weymouth Fire Station, Bere Regis Fire Station, Bridport Fire Station and Crew Maiden Newton to standby duties at Dorchester to provide fire cover. Whilst at Dorchester, they also attended and dealt with several incidents themselves."
