A CHILD was taken to hospital after she fell on some rocks and sustained a 'deep cut' on her leg.

Lyme Regis Coastguard was called to help a young girl who had fallen on some rocks at the beach in Lyme Regis at 3.57pm yesterday afternoon.

The girl was being helped by a local fossil guide and a GP who dressed the wound before paramedics arrived.

The girl was carried on a stretcher to an ambulance which took her to hospital.

A spokesman for Lyme Regis Coastguard said: "Lyme Regis Coastguard team was tasked to help a child who had sustained a deep cut on her leg after falling on rocks at Lyme Regis.

"Fortunately, the casualty had already been helped by a local fossil guide and by a GP. They had managed to dress the wound.

"With the tide starting to flood, the team carefully packaged the casualty onto the stretcher and carried her back to the safety of the sea wall. The casualty was then passed to the ambulance service for further assessment and transport to hospital. We wish the casualty a speedy recovery.

"For emergencies on the sea, cliff, river, mud, harbour and beach call 999 and ask for the coastguard."
