MORE than 100 PlayStations were seized from The Verne prison - as it is feared inmates have been using the gaming devices to trade abuse online.
A raid took place last week in an intelligence-led operation at on Portland and it was said that officers went round the cells removing every PlayStation in the jail, which houses only sex offenders.
It is feared the inmates were using the Sony gaming devices to trade abuse online and to contact children on the outside.
Inmates are banned from using the web in prison. But sources said a group of sex offenders had smuggled in tiny USB sticks to access the internet.
A source said: “The officers swept through the cells taking every one.
“The devices will now be examined and any concerns passed to police.
“The suggestion is that the inmates may have been using the internet to trade inappropriate content, messages or even pictures relating to children.”
Paedophile pop star Gary Glitter, real name Paul Gadd, was jailed for 16 years in 2015 for indecently assaulting young girls and is currently being held at the prison.
But reports last month claimed he could be eligible for day release within weeks.
It was said that there is no suggestion that he was involved in the crackdown.
