ARMED police arrested a man outside Dorset Echo offices this afternoon as part of a pre-planned operation.
A number of undercover police officers were parked outside the entrance to the car park of the newspaper’s offices off Hampshire Road, Weymouth at around 1pm.
Counter Terrorism Policing South East and Regional Organised Crime Unit said officers carried out a pre-planned operation and to carry out an arrest.
A man in handcuffs was detained by two police officers wearing face coverings and police caps. One of the armed officers appeared to have a shotgun along with other items.
At least five other officers could be seen talking along with another officer inside a vehicle.
A police vehicle from Hampshire Constabulary arrived at around 1.15pm for the arrested man to be escorted into.
A spokeswoman for the Counter Terrorism Policing South East and Regional Organised Crime Unit noted that locals may notice 'an increased police presence in the area' but insisted there is no threat to the public.
She said: "Officers from the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU) attended Hampshire Road in Weymouth today to carry out a pre-planned arrest.
"Members of the public may notice an increased police presence in the area however there is no threat to the wider public. Further information will be released once available."
