A PERSON on an e-scooter has given a warning after being caught by police - as officers continue to clamp down on the vehicles.

Patrolling officers in Northmoor Way, Wareham caught a person riding an electric scooter on Tuesday (July 6).

The offending rider was given a warning notice and warned that if he was caught riding it again, the e-scooter will be seized.

A spokesman for Purbeck Police said: "Whilst patrolling Northmoor way, Purbeck North Neighbour Policing Team has today again stopped a different e-scooter user.

"We have issued the rider a warning notice.

"Dorset Police give a warning on the first offence and if there is a second offence the e-scooter is seized and disposed of. Also followed by a fine and penalty points on your licence."

It comes as riders could end up in court for traffic offences as police clamp down on using the motor vehicles in public spaces.

Dorset Police previously said they have received increased reports of more people using e-scooters, which are illegal to ride in a public place.

While e-scooters are legally available to purchase, it is currently against the law to ride a privately owned e-scooter in any public place in the UK.

This includes roads, pavements, parks, town centres or promenades. The only place a privately owned e-scooter can be used is on private land.
