POLICE investigating an assault in Weymouth are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

The incident happened at around 10.45pm on Tuesday June 22 on The Esplanade near to the King’s Statue when the victim was approached by four people and then assaulted by two men from this group.

The group consisted of two young men and two young women, possibly in their late teens.

The two offenders have been described as wearing black tracksuits.

The victim, a 38-year-old man from Weymouth, sustained injuries to his head and was taken to hospital for treatment.

It was reported that after the assault the group walked toward the Premier store.

Police Constable Ryan Lloyd, of Weymouth Police, said: "This was an unprovoked attack that left the victim very shaken and confused as he did not know the offenders.

"Since the incident we have made a number of enquiries trying to identify those responsible.

"I'm hoping that there are more witnesses out there who have not yet spoken with police and I would urge them to please come forward.

"I would also like to hear from anyone who may have information about the offenders that could help our investigation."
