WIND gusts of up to 50mph could hit Dorset as a weather warning is forecast for part of the county.
A warm sunny day today (Monday, July 5) will make way for wet and windy weather overnight.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind, which will be in place between 1am and 12pm on Tuesday, July 6.
A description of the weather alert reads: "Strong winds could bring some disruption across parts of the south."
The Dorset coast will be impacted by the weather alert, with coastal towns of Bridport, Portland, Weymouth, Swanage, Bournemouth and Poole among the areas to be affected.
More inland areas of Dorchester, Wareham and Ferndown are also within the weather alert, with major routes of A35, A37 and A354 also under the warning.
The weather warning states there may be delays to traffic and travel as well as some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves.
A Met Office spokesman said: "An area of low pressure is expected to track across the far south and southeast of the UK from the southwest on Tuesday morning.
"To the south and east of the low centre some unseasonably strong winds are expected, particularly around some coasts and hills.
"Here gusts may reach 40-50 mph which may lead to damage to temporary structures and transport disruption.
"The strong winds will be accompanied by some heavy showers or rain for a time, before gradually moving northeastwards and easing from the southwest through Tuesday daytime."
