LAND earmarked for 500 homes as well as a hotel and care home has finally come on the market, and developers are now being urged to make the multi-million pound plans a reality.

Almost 35 acres of development land in Littlemoor has been brought to the market after more than five years of planning, and estate agent Savills is hoping that a sale can be completed by the end of 2021 - bringing with it jobs and a multi-million pound boost to the economy.

The site, which is located on the Bincombe Bumps roundabout, already has outline planning permission for a mixed-use development, including a care home, hotel, primary school and car show rooms.

No guide price on the sale is being disclosed, however developers will have to pay more than £1 million into schemes to help the community with a cash bonus for a community hall, play areas, open spaces and donations for the health centre and library, following the approval of a Section 106 agreement by Dorset Council's planning committee to bring the development to fruition.

More than £200,000 has been earmarked for Weymouth Swimming Pool and Redland Sports Centre - a decision that was voted against by Littlemoor Councillor Louie O'Leary.

He said: "I am all for the new homes and a new hotel and new primary school, however, I am strongly against how the money has been allocated. People in Littlemoor are concerned and aggrieved that they will have to take all of the building work and swallow the impact on our infrastructure but the money is being diverted away from the area.

"I have concerns that the infrastructure of Littlemoor will struggle to cope with this - the roads are going to be far busier, the doctors surgeries will be busier and Bincombe Valley Primary School is already becoming oversubscribed.

"People in Littlemoor know all too well that there is a need for housing, but the services will struggle as a result of the development."

Colin Wilkins, development director at Savills, said: "The availability of the land to the north of Littlemoor Road presents a unique opportunity for a large scale development in this coastal location.

"With excellent connectivity to surrounding areas and the sale of the commercial development land at Littlemoor offering an excellent investment opportunity that will lead to job creation and even a regional logistics hub for the south coast, we are anticipating a significant level of interest in this site."
