In answer to the resident of Normandy Way in Dorchester who complained about uncut verges, I suggest you look more closely.
There’s a pyramidal orchid growing right there, a plant to be treasured.
Wildlife, plantlife and insects are all under threat due to diminishing habitats and our apparent obsession with neatness, but given space and the right conditions, they will thrive.
We need to rethink our priorities.
