THE finishing touches are being made to Weymouth's much-anticipated new Burger King branch ahead of its opening this week.
As previously reported, Burger King confirmed plans that it would be opening a new restaurant after job advertisements were posted online, including roles for a crew member, shift leader and a site manager.
The fast food giant will open a new restaurant inside a retail unit along with pizzeria Sbarro opposite Aldi at Link Park, Chickerell.
The project to transform the unit into the new fast food branch is now almost complete, with a number of workers on site fitting out the venue.
Customers will be able to walk into the branch and order their meal on its interactive touch screen and pick up their food at the til.
A delivery hatch has also been installed on the side of the unit to allow staff to pass orders to Just Eat and Deliveroo workers.
The new restaurant was originally scheduled to open at Link Park on Monday, May 3, but was delayed until Wednesday, May 26.
A spokeswoman for Burger King said: "The opening of the restaurant has been delayed and is now due to open on Wednesday, May 26."
The new restaurant at Link Park will create approximately 15-20 full and part-time positions.
The news of a new Burger King restaurant sparked excitement among residents, with many calling it 'great news for the town' which will create jobs in the area.
Describing itself as the second-largest hamburger chain in the world, Burger King is known for its flame-grilled burgers, famous Whopper burgers, chilli cheese bites, fries and hot drinks to eat in or takeaway.
The new restaurant opening is a part of Burger King’s expansion in Dorset, bringing the total number of branches in the county up to five. The fast food chain currently has branches in Broadstone, Poole and Bournemouth.
Sbarro, an American pizzeria chain which that specialises in New York-style pizza and other Italian-American cuisine, will also open next door to Burger.
Sbarro signage on the unit has already been installed with 30 to 35 jobs set to be created in the area. The new branch will open in June.
