An air ambulance has attended.
One motorist was travelling from Poundbury towards Weymouth at around 1pm this afternoon.
"As we were driving along the relief road I could see that the traffic was backed up all the way to the Upwey turning," he said.
“It was at a complete standstill so we turned off at that junction.
“Lots of other people must have had the same idea because the traffic was then backed up along Dorchester Road in the village.
“When you see traffic like that you fear the worst that there has been a nasty collision. I just hope whoever was involved is OK.”
Dorset Police have now confirmed the road has been reopened.
