A ROAD in Sherborne town centre will close for roadworks to repair a leaking pipe.
South Street, between its junctions with Ludbourne Road and Half Moon Street, will be closed from Monday, May 18 to allow Wessex Water carry out repairs to the pipes.
The 25-metre section of road will be closed for up five days, but Dorset Council say it is anticipated that the works will be completed by Wednesday, May 20.
The road closure will allow Wessex Water to safely access the road and replace a leaking communication pipe relay.
A 2.9-mile diversion to bypass the road closure, which will see motorists travel north east on Long Street towards B3145 Thornbank Court, before turning left onto B3145 St Swithin’s Road.
From here, drivers must follow the road and turn left onto A30 Coldharbour, follow the A30 and then turn left on A352 Horsecastles Lane.
Drivers must then turn left onto B3145 New Road, take another left to stay on New Road and then turn left onto B3145 Gas House Hill.
Motorists can alternatively divert around the road closure via Digby Road and Station Road.
Dorset Council warns that any person who breaches the road closure could be convicted or face a fine not exceeding £1,000.
