A MENTAL health charity in Dorset is promoting a new initiative inspired by Captain Sir Tom Moore.
Dorset Mind is promoting the Captain Tom 100 challenge to help people across the country after the charity said it has seen an increase of service users struggling with mental health.
Captain Tom was a British Army officer and a national hero who raised over £32.79 million for charity in the run-up to his 100th birthday during the pandemic.
A Dorset Mind spokeswoman said: "The Covid-19 pandemic had a catastrophic effect with the cancellation of fundraising events and the loss of thousands in income, and combined with a dramatic increase in demand for support - this last year has been challenging."
Participants are asked to think of a Captain Tom 100 challenge based around the number 100 and do it at any time and anywhere over Captain Tom’s birthday weekend – starting on April 30 through to Bank Holiday Monday (May 3).
A few examples include walking 100 steps or running 100 metres, scoring 100 goals, baking 100 cakes, climbing 100 stairs, hopping 100 laps of the garden, building 100 sandcastles, writing a 100-word poem, flipping 100 pancakes.
