FORMER England footballer Jamie Redknapp told how he 'loves Weymouth' after visiting with other celebrities to film a new TV show.

Redknapp, who played for Bournemouth, Southampton, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, was in town filming A League of Their Own's new UK Road Trip.

The football pundit - along with fellow celebrities Freddie Flintoff, Marco Pierre-White, Alan Carr, and Tom Davis - had lunch at Harbourside Cafè on Custom House Quay before hopping on a boat into a sun-soaked Weymouth Bay for filming for the Sky One series.

Jamie Redknapp said: "I love Weymouth, it's been such a sunny day - love it.

"I have family that live around this area too."

Former England cricket captain Freddie Flintoff said: "It's a good day for filming."

The former sports stars are the two main stars of a spin-off of the popular comedy panel series, which will see them joined by guests to travel across the UK.

As well as taking in the sights of Weymouth Harbour, the TV stars spent the morning at The Rudloe Arms Hotel, in Corsham, near Bath, owned by Mr Pierre-White.

The three-Michelin-star chef visited Dorchester on December 9 to support his son Luciano to see his debut restaurant - Luccio's - which opened in October.

Previous series of the 'Road Trip' saw both Redknapp and Flintoff travel around the US and across parts of Europe to take on challenges set by show host James Corden.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the producers of the show said they cannot travel abroad, which is the reason behind filming the spin-off's new series in the UK.

Producers also said they were 'excited' to be in Weymouth for filming, and they were working hard to 'adhere to social distancing rules'.

Asked by the Echo whether filming should be going ahead during the national lockdown, a spokesman from Sky said: "Throughout this time safety remains our number one priority.

"Sky and production company CPL have put in place social distancing rules and the required measures and protocols so that safe filming can take place.

"There's a Covid Supervisor on set at all times, temperature checks take place on arrival and everyone is to wear face coverings. All the crew and talent are PCR tested before filming as well."
